"Providing cost effective Engineering Risk & Safety Consultancy Solutions"
Do I need to have my lift examined?
YES - Passenger lifts require formal visual thorough examination at an interval of 6 months (12 months for non-passenger carrying lifts). The examinations are to be performed by a suitably qualified and experienced engineer surveyor (Competent Person). The surveyor is to be independent from any lift maintenance company.
The lift owner / responsible persons (RMC) are duty bound to have these 6 monthly examinations conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (Art 9.3.a) (LOLER).
The lift owner / responsible persons (RMC) are responsible for actioning any deficiencies reported and recommendations listed in the examination reports. Safety critical defects will be time quantified and will require action in a set period. If these deficiencies are not actioned then the Competent Person (surveyor) is required by law to report this to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
